Motor lock

Motor locks are used in commercial properties where high burglary protection is required, e.g. at night in the property's perimeter security when the premises are unmanned. The lock's bolt is controlled by a built-in motor, which locks and unlocks automatically with a signal from the access control or alarm system. Built-in sensors can be used to retrieve a range of different signals from the motor lock, including whether the door is open or closed, whether the bolt is out or in, and whether unauthorized opening has occurred.

The motor lock is connected to the control unit, which in turn is connected to an access control system. The lock can also be operated manually with a cylinder, knappevrider in some cases, emergency exit fittings. Doors equipped with motor locks are an important part of good and reliable perimeter security.

Protection class

SAFETRON motorized locks are certified according to SSF 3522 and SS-EN 14846 and, together with certified RC-classed security doors, the motorized locks constitute approved locking in properties with Protection Class 1, 2 or 3 requirements.

Questions and answers

  • What is an Motor lock?

Motorized locks are used in doors with high burglary protection requirements. The lock's hook bolt is controlled by a built-in motor for both unlocking and locking, but can always be operated manually via a cylinder.

  • How does an Motor lock work?

Motorized locks have a built-in sensor that tells you whether the door is open or closed. When the door is closed, the motor lock automatically unlocks the hook bolt unless there is an activation from the access control system.

  • What is the protection class?

The protection class describes the total burglary protection of a property and is a classification that specifiers rely on. Door environments that have protection class requirements require at least one motorized lock in doors that are electronically controlled.

  • What is SSF 3522?

To be able to call a motor lock an "approved locking device", a certificate showing at least lock class 3 according to the standard SSF 3522 is required. This standard is referred to in the requirements for protection classes 1, 2 and 3.
  • What is RC classification?

An RC rating is issued to a specific door model after a breakout test has been carried out where the door together with the nature of the lock fittings is determined. The levels are RC2, RC3 and RC4 where RC4 sets the toughest requirements.
  • Are Motor locks suitable for residential use?

Motorized locks for commercial properties are not suitable for residential use as they always lock automatically. A digital motor lock with app control, such as the SAFETRON 3600, is suitable for residential use.

  • What is modern and classic falleplassering?

This refers to the height position of the lock's control piston and latch bolt. There are two industry standards: classic under ASSA classic and modern under ASSA connect.

  • What is multi-voltage?

This means that the lock can be powered by both 12V and 24V and thus does not need to be ordered as either/or.

  • What is a hook rule and a straight rule?

Hook bolt and straight bolt refer to the design of the locking piston of the motor lock. As the name indicates, a hook bolt has a hook that, unlike the straight bolt, also locks the door and frame together.
  • Can I use a motor lock as the only lock on the door?

Traditionally, the use of motorized locks as the only lock in the door has been discouraged, but the SAFETRON 6000 series has been developed and adapted for use in high frequency doors and thus used as the only lock in the door.
  • What is an encrypted signal?

One of the requirements for lock class 3 according to SSF 3522 is that the motor lock Cable contains encrypted communication and thus cannot be manipulated to give an opening signal to the motor lock.
